MBAND

Three-band dynamics: the glue a single-band compressor cannot do. A kick hitting a full-range compressor pulls the whole mix down with it, top end and all — split first and the bottom can be held still while the top is left alone. One threshold per band; ratio, attack and release shared. Does NOTHING at its defaults until a threshold comes down.

knobs

Left to right across the face — the dials in the picture.

lo hz40 … 1000 hz= 200 hz
Where low becomes mid. Around 200 Hz keeps the kick and bass in their own band.
hi hz800 … 12000 hz= 3000 hz
Where mid becomes high. 3 kHz puts sibilance and cymbals up top on their own.
lo thr0 … 1= 1
The LOW band's threshold. This is the one to reach for first: holding the bottom still is most of what glue means.
mid thr0 … 1= 1
The MID band's threshold — where most of the music is, so a light touch here.
hi thr0 … 1= 1
The HIGH band's threshold. Pulling this down is a de-esser for a whole mix.
ratio1 … 20= 3
How hard, in all three bands. 2-4 is glue; 10 and up is an effect.
attack0 … 1 s= 0.01 s
How fast it grabs. Slow lets transients through, which keeps a mix punchy.
release0.001 … 5 s= 0.15 s
How fast it lets go. Too fast breathes; too slow and the mix stays ducked after the kick has gone.
makeup0 … 4= 1
Output level, to make up what the squashing took.
